Elisabeth Staak

Tutor of German

Staak, Elisabeth

Guten Tag! My name is Elisabeth Staak and I am from Germany. I hold a Master’s Degree in German, American and British studies which I earned from a little town name Greifswald (it literally translates to Griffon forest) which is close to the Baltic Sea. After I graduated from university, I taught German to Syrian refugees and was a Fulbright Scholar for a year at Missouri Western State University in Saint Joseph, Missouri. Both experiences have taught me to use language learning as a window to open up new perspectives on different cultures, societies and mind sets but it also helped me self-reflect my own background. German is a very rich language that simultaneously shapes as it is shaped by its speakers and I can’t wait to talk to you about dialects, politics, food, differences between north, east, west and south Germany etc. in and outside the classroom. Besides my passion for teaching German, I enjoy traveling, long walks, running, music, creative writing and film. I am very much looking forward being your German tutor for the academic year and getting to know all of you. See you in class!
